2009 MCS: misfires HPFP?
Hi,
Our mini had a hard time starting this morning, but once running there were no problems. The difficulties starting resulted in a CEL and codes for multiple misfires on several cylinders.
In July we had similar issues, and the dealer recommended and we paid for the walnut value cleaning and the timing chain replacement. A very expensive trip.
Two weeks ago, I changed the thermostat.
In searching NAM, it seems like the high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) is a common failure point that causes the symptoms we're seeing.
There also seems to be some talk that the HPFP is has an extended warranty on it, but that it can be difficult to get the dealer to actually replace it.
A few questions:
1. Does this sound like my HPFP could be going bad?
2. Is the HPFP covered for warranty replacement (2009 MCS, 76000 miles)
3. How do I convince the dealer to replace my HPFP under warranty?
Thanks.

Contact Mini USA before you take it in. Its typical for the dealer to try and sell as much as they can before the high-pressure fuel pump, there was a guy that when he dropped off his Mini with a note telling the SA there were codes that were for the HPFP.
They ignored the note and told him that he needed a carbon cleaning and timing chain, but before they got to the repairs the ECU started giving codes for the HPFP. Go figure!
