R56 vs Deer

So following my wife to Grandma's house tonight, a pair of deer came running and jumped a fence in front of her. The first one hits the road and it's head drops right below the Mini's right headlight. She barely saw it coming, I saw the whole thing in slow motion. Snapped it's neck, popped the bumper plastics apart and took a few pieces of fender liner as the car drove over. Overall, the best case scenario! She was a little shaken, but I was able to straighten out the plastics a bit. The car took it like a pro. Pics tomorrow.

It certainly didn't suffer. That's better than many cases like this.

Glad you are safe. I had one come out of nowhere on the highway (55-60mph) a few years back in my 2010 R57. I saw the deer, horns and all, through my right front window all of the sudden, and we somehow luckily missed each other. But for that brief moment, I could see this large deer so close. It was a miracle. I realized how big the deer looked in such a small car as the MINI.

The deer definitely did not suffer. I almost hit a 3rd one near that spot on the way home. Pulled the bumper off today, it's a little worse than I originally thought. The fog light bracket broke, and the bumper is cracked in at least 4 places. Got some plastic epoxy on it, reassembly tomorrow. On a positive note, I found a radiator hose hanging low and rubbing the shift linkage. Pretty sure it was the tech that did the water pump recall last week. So I fixed that too.
Pics of damage:

Duct tape should take care of that… they sell it at walmart and home depo I think… I myself have worked miracles with the stuff…

all kidding aside I'm happy to hear no one got hurt… your car is new enough where if you can find a bumper for sale from a car with the same color it should be close enough to not be noticeable… (Just did a bumper swap on my friends car with that scenario and it came out perfect luckily) good luck with the fix...

I used plastic epoxy, came out pretty good. The fog light bracket was in 3 pieces, but holding up so far. Maybe a used bumper down road.

Poor deer my behind, those things are a nuisance. I hit one with my Mini and it did $12k damage which the adjustor grossly underestimated. So instead of totaling it they fixed it based on the adjustor, and I'll never be able to sell this car now due to the Carfax on it. I did get a new turbo out of it though!

The only good deer is a dead one.

Nice job on the repair. Now you can used the money that you saved for flowers and dinner next week.

I agree Deer are just big rats. However, they make for good meat.
