Trunk warning light going on and off

Hello, I'm a new mini owner 2009 S, having a issue with the trunk warning light.
On startup light stays on about 60 seconds then goes off, after that light goes on nearly everytime I come to a stop, again goes off as I leave the stop. Would appreciate any help. Would be helpful to know location and how the censor works.

This drives me nutz too, all I can say is that it happens less often when I leave the drivers door open or the window open when I slam the trunk closed. But it still happens sometimes anyway, with no apparent cause. I can say that it happened almost constantly in the two weeks before my battery finally died with the cold weather, could be a co-incidence? And a lot less often since the new battery was put in.

I have a 2009s and this happened to me also. I could hear the electrical trunk latch cycle even though the trunk did not appear open. upon closer inspection it was unlatched. this continued until it finally kept recycling over and over again and drained the battery over night. took it in to the dealer and found that the trunk latch was corroded and had to be replaced. the drain hole in the hatch door had not been removed to allow water to drain out and it filled up and corroded the latch.
you might want to check the drain hole in the trunk lid. hopefully your problem is just a faulty sensor and not a corroded latch.
