Coughing when warmed up
I have a 2010 Cooper, not an S, with an automatic transmission at 43,000 miles. Lately, it has developed a cough when the engine is fully at operating temperature , but only when I’m stopped at a light or if I put the car into neutral or park.
If the car is simply stopped, in Drive, it might cough once every 10 or 20 seconds. If I put it into Neutral or Park it coughs more often.
The car does not do this when it’s less than at full operating temperature.
Any ideas?

I brought the car into the our local dealership, Habberstad, Huntington, NY. They recommended and carried out a fuel injection induction cleaning and they changed the spark plugs at 43,000 miles.
The car runs very well now, I'm a bit surprised to hear that there was carbon build up on a plain Cooper, but I drive in slow Long Island traffic all the time. Maybe that was the cause, the poor thing never gets to run long and fast.
