Cam Position Sensor Replacement Help

First time really posting here, so a quick hello!

I have a 2007 Mini Cooper S, and recently the check light came on. I checked the codes with my scanner and it popped up with P0340, P0341, and P0342. After consulting the library it seems as its all related to the "A" Camshaft Position Sensor which has crapped the bed.

I have located it near the back right of the valve cover, and assume that its just a matter of taking off the one bolt, disconnecting the wire harness, and pulling up until it pops out. Is there any more to it than that? Anything else to watch out for?

Thank you for any replies.

Well, make sure that the sensor is actually the problem and not the camshaft timing. If you have timing chain problems, then it will log errors through the camshaft sensor, so keep that in mind. In regards to replacing it, I don't think there is much to it, other than plugging the new one in...

Thank you for the reply. I'm going to lead more towards only the sensor being the issue, on the basis it threw P0342 - Camshaft Position Sensor 'A' Circuit Low (Bank 1) which in my experience is a good sign a sensor is about to fail or has already failed. The car only has 40k, so the likelihood of camshaft timing being off seems less feasible.

I figured replacing the sensor would be straight forward, but didnt know if there were any notorious issues that I wasnt aware of. Thanks again.

My '07 timing chain, tensioner, guides, etc, failed at about 40K. No codes, just the "death rattle". I suggest a trip to your nearest Mini dealer for their evaluation, BEFORE you invest in a new sensor. The chain / tensioner repair should be no charge, if they can verify it's faulty. Your codes might be all the verification needed. No verification, go with the sensor.
