Yet another wheel/tire fitting question
I would like to put on some 18x8.5 wheels with a 225/40/18 tire. I have bought, but not installed BC BR coilovers. Does anyone know what offset I will need to fit these before I spend the money? I was leaning towards an et25 because the 225/40 will have a slight stretch as well as some decent camber on the car.

225mm == 8.8", so the sidewall would barely align with the side of the wheel, offering no protection from curbing.
225/40-18 size would also result in 2.63% great rolling circumference, which would significantly and adversely effect acceleration, and add to the fitment challenges.
Between tires too tall, wheel too wide, and likely lowered ride with the coil-overs, no offset would save you from rubbing. Likely on the inside.

^Not true.
225 is fine for 8.5. 225 is within the range of recommended rim width for a lot of tires. You can even fit 205s on 8.5 with stretch.
I can guarantee you will rub with 225 on 18x8.5 ET25, especially if you are lowered.
FYI, fellow member corin.mcblide is running 17x8.5 et32 on 205/40. Use your imagination.

The second sentence attempted to clarify - it will fit, but will provide no rim protection. Specifically, Michelin lists wheel widths between 7.5-9.0" as acceptable for 225/40-18 tire :

205/40-18 would be a challenge on 8.5" wide rim, and fall outside of Michelin's recommend range of 7-8".
It may be mountable, but the sidewalls will stretch out to the rim's edges, and the tire's contact patch will be somewhat distorted.

Thanks for the help guys! I believe there is a guy on Mini Torque who has crammed 18x9 et25 front and 18x9.5 et25 rear that runs on 225/40/18 tires. I'm pretty confident to fit a 18x8.5 and I may flirt with running 18x9s now. I'm postive I'll rub but I have no issues rolling the fenders and trimming the plastic. Plus I'm not going to slam the car on its nuts when the BC's are installed. I'll leave and slight gap to keep the rubbing to a minimum while still making the car's stance look somewhat decent.
Now I just have to save for the wheels and tires.
Here's the link to what I found: http://www.minitorque.com/forum/f272...4/index45.html
