Engine Starts Then Stalls

Hi all,
Jeeves is a 2007 MCS, 6 speed manual with 45000+ miles and is experiencing his first problems. The biggest is that when I start up for the first time on a given day, the engine starts, then the revs drop and the engine stalls. This happens a few times. I can reduce the number of times it happens by giving it some gas to raise the revs for a few seconds. Eventually, it holds and I am good for the day. I have a "gold" (lead?) extended warranty but this might be caused by a wear item anyway. Has anyone had a similar experience.

The other thing is that sometimes when I try to open the sunroof, it goes into motion, then stops just before it actually opens. This is one of those occasional problems. I looked at the tracks and don't see anything that might bind the mechanism. Would a little oil help?

Thanks. in advance.

SH

sounds like high pressure fuel pump for the engine. my sunroof did the same thing, but in hot days only.

I get idle issues as well, second time it has happened to me. The last time i had the thermostat and temp sensor replaced which fixed it.

As for the sunroof, i think it's a heat issue. When it gets warm outside mine sticks and i have to push on it to help it open

Does indeed sound like a classic sign of your HPFP starting to die, cool thing is Mini USA extended the HPFP pump warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles!

You're not alone with the sunroof, when it sits in the hot sun the metal hinges swell up and expand making it more difficult for the motor. I wouldn't worry about it as all of us have experienced it at one time or another. I think Mini should have used a metal hing that doesn't expand with heat. Just give the sunroof a little help with your finger if it fails to open again.

Thanks for your input. Sunroof issue sounds like poor quality thinking and implementation. I made an appointment with Mini of Westchester to look at the idle issue.
Thanks, again.

Is it still giving you problems or did the symptoms go away?

Funny you should ask if it happened today; it did not! How did you know? Revs seemed like they wanted to drop for a moment when I started up but never did. I'm not canceling the service appointment yet, though.

I'm also having a stalling issue. Schumacher is a '06 CVT MC. It happens sporadically, but when it does it is always first thing in the morning. It starts up fine, but as soon as I shift into reverse or drive it will stumble and usually die. It will start up and drive fine after that. Today was the first time it died during the second start up and when I started it the third time it stumbled but didn't die.

Went to the mechanic last month and they couldn't get a stall thethree days they had it. They changed the oil and flushed the oil fluid and transmission.

Your issues seems like fuel starvation right below optimal, just barely enough which is why you're not stalling indefinitely, though I'm not sure about the R53 06 MC. Have you had your CVT transmission replaced by Mini? They had problems with those CVT transmissions, it should be a free replacement.
