Cabin Filter Install

Getting ready install new cabin filter on my gen 2 MCS. I've watched the videos, seems easy enough. Question though, which way does the air flow arrow point? Up or down?

Hello,

Here are the cabin filters:

Cabin Filter Regular ( Non active carbon ) Part # 64319127515

&

Cabin Filter Active Carbon ( Good for helping with odors ) Part # 64319127516

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/64319127516/

Those are located on the passenger side in the foot well, under the dash. Easy to change.

The air flows into the small opening on the front top ( pull air under the cowl ) and flow down onto and through the pleats, then into the HVAC system, the round hole on the side.

Thanks

I dunno about you

but that didn't answer it for me

let's make it easy

when I slide in a new filter do I want to start with the arrow pointing UP or DOWN?

(the older filters with a plastic frame only fit one way . . .)

LOL, I had to read it a couple times myself. I changed out mine today, turns out I didn't need to ask. The top of the filter was REALLY dirty, so arrow points DOWN. My '12 MCS has 27k miles on it, was somewhat surprised how bad it was. I watched a couple of youtube videos, mine was a bit different. I undid the two snaps at the front of the box, then it just swung down, the back was hinged. Two minutes tops. Got a BMW OEM charcoal filter off ebay for $25 shipped. Did the engine air filter while I was at it.

Did mine today as well. Very simple - which is always a rare bonus for me. Was a bit surprised the filter is almost vertical and not horizontal like the videos on Youtube show (might be horizontal for first gen. MINIs though). But as easy an install as it gets.

Just installed one, after watching a youtube video, with the arrow pointing UP. Thanks, ECS Tuning for the clarification. I'll go it to DOWN tomorrow.

And (not-a-shill) ECS did a fine job delivering my parts for a different repair. Good vendor.

AZdsrt, your A/C will probably work better now too. I did notice a difference when I changed mine.

You're probably right. I haven't driven it since I changed it out, but here in AZ the AC is used a lot. Both the cabin filter and engine air filter was very dirty, I waited too long. I think once a year is probably a good schedule..

Naw, no pics. But there are tons of youtube videos out there how to do it.

This video was for a gen 1, the gen 2 is pretty much the same, except I didn't have to pop the snaps on the back of the box, it was hinged.
