Green Fluid on Engine Case...

Hello MINI_NAMies,

Drove to work this morning (25mi Hwy commute) parked and noticed smoke emitting from under the bonnet on the driver's side.

Later got home and inspected, a green'ish colored liquid has filled some of the wells in the engine mold casing. A link to the photos provided for location purposes.

The smoke had no odor, the green liquid is very thick and viscous like motor oil but has no odor what-so-ever. My thought is there can only be about two liquids with this viscosity, power steering fluid or brake fluid. Haven't noticed any difference in steering or braking.

Plan on having the Techs check it out in the morning and schedule an appointment, but wanted a clue as to what it may be prior to going in.

Any help appreciated…

Yep thermostat housing leaking green coolant, it almost sounds normal now. Just don't take it to a Mini dealer unless you're under warranty!

Thank you gentlemen... yes I'm under warranty (extended).

Just kind of surprised that this liquid is so thick and (like I stated) oily. That's why coolant wasn't even on my radar (even though it is green).

I remember when I first saw that puddle of green thick stuff (coolant), it was so thick I had to taste it to be sure what it was.

Thank you "SystemLord"and "IndiManic," appreciated!

Took "The Silver Fox" into Northwest_MINI this morning... had the thermostat leak fixed. My baby is as good as new!

Fantastic service from Northwest_MINI, and a HUGE Thank You! to Jay Senon (Service Manager) and Darrell San Nicholas (Service Advisor) and to the Tech's that shall go un-named...
