Too much torque for Auto Trans with Billet R56 Turbo
Yikes... installed Alta/Perrin Billet R56 Turbo in a 2012 Cooper S with automatic transmission (32K miles).
Everything runs absolutely phenomenal... Except going from 1st to 2nd . It's slipping. It appears the tranny cannot handle this much torque?
Any suggestions out there to help compensate for the power? Torque bushings? What do you guys think? Sorry newbie here...

Holy crap!!!
You are one lucky motherf#$%er to still have a motor!!! Well..a motor with no holes in the hood from existing engine parts anyway.... buy a lottery ticket!!
Lol.
Better unplug the jb+......
With one...you don't run or need the other!!
I almost thought it was a wrx guy trying to troll folks when I read it!!

VR Tune by Vivid Racing...
This tune worked out pretty good. Smooth power all the way through the curve. I had 600+ hp Twin Turbo Z back in the day and the tune on that thing was a nightmare.
As someone suggested, I am going to look into a Manic tune.

It's like lying to your lawyer or doctor.

What's the point of running both? The JB+ is meant for people that don't want to mess around with altering the DME. If you have a tune and want more then just ask for a more aggressive tune. The tuner has designed the tune with specific values and by putting the JB+ on top of this you could screw this up and harm your engine.

well said!!
You can do MUCH MORE with a tune than the JB....
IF THE TUNE is not aggressive enough...get it ratched up....done on a dyno, the tune can be adjusted to the very edge of engine destruction if you wish...or mild...
Issue is...the jb is made to take a STOCK TUNE to a safe level of performance gain...
Put that on a tune...a tune is already MUCH MORE AGRESSIVE than the factory tune....your safety margin is already much narrower....then add a jb...ouch.
It is your car...you can blow it up if you want. We warned you.

That's a good way to put it.
The JB+ fools the ECU to make it think there is less boost than actual, and the ECU will compensate with more boost. It is a quick and easy way to obtain more boost. The proper way to do it is modify the tune to produce more boost on its own. JB+ behavior is calibrated for how the stock tune responds to boost readings. Conversely, a custom tune is calibrated for real boost readings, not what a JB+ is telling it.

UPDATE: Disconnected battery, removed JB+, installed NM Torque Arm Inserts and drove a little over 100 miles. The slipping seemed to happen less after removing the JB+...
However, the car just threw a "Transmission Malfunction" warning during a spirited drive. Tranny feels ok though. Restarted engine and warning went away. Sigh... "Death Rattle" for tranny?
