CEL Code P2187

Anybody ever get this code and find the fix for it? I know what it means - Idle Lean Condition (Bank1). But I can't find a fix for it or base cause. The only pointer I've had so far after some extensive diagnostic is leaking valve guide seals. Sometimes, but not always, it might come along with P300, P301, P302, P303 and P304 which are misfire codes. Sometimes I can get the P300 codes without the P2187. Car runs greats. Kind of rough cold starts sometimes too, but runs super within a couple minutes. Thanks!

Any thoughts anyone? Overhaul time or what?

Sounds like the O2 sensor (Bank1) is detecting a lean condition, the early morning rough start-ups point towards the fuel pumps. You just need to find out which one, HPFP or gas tank pump. These are common symptoms when there's a fuel delivery issue and are usually the HPFP.

I have a catch can that's been on the car for a couple years. Due to other stuff in the way, the hose route is a little weird and quite recently I've been smelling crank case gas. I'm going to remove the catch can and restore the stock venting route. Sometimes when I start the car I can detect the slight smell of raw fuel. Had the HPFP replaced a couple months ago.

You might want to check your MAP sensor for oil residue, when my PCV system failed I found a little oil in the turbo inlet, intercooler and MAP sensor. If your just now smelling crankcase gasses perhaps your PCV separator isn't using both PCV hoses. When my PCV system failed the throttle body PCV port was stuck shut which is why it all went to the turbo inlet.

Thanks System.... I'm wondering if my PVC system isn't failing. I am back to stock configuration now removing the catch can. I did find enough oil in the turbo to get my finger pretty wet when I wiped it out with my finger. I had cleaned MAP not long ago - one of the first things. I have a ScanGuage and I hit Scan pretty frequently to see what it's saying. This morning I got several Ready -> Not Ready sequences on my 15 minute commute this morning. NO Pending codes. I need to get some drive time now. I'm doing ATF service at the DIY at a local dealer tomorrow. I'm going to see if I can finagle a smoke test. I may have a fail brake booster, the pedal has been a touch soft lately. Pad war I'm hoping. Aux Vacuum pump is pretty new.

When you first installed the OCC do you block off the throttle body PCV port? If so all your oil has been traveling through the turbo, intercooler and intake piping, it's got to be a mess.

Oh sure. I had it on for the better part of 2 years without issue, properly installed. I had to reinstall and run the hoses in an undesirable route because of the drl controller mounting. I think the hoses were too long, plus they weren't the right hose and may have been collapsing. I could smell a leak from it just recently. It wasn't a mess, never has been.

These valve covers typically only last between 50-75K miles and the first thing to go is the integrated PCV system and not the valve cover itself, had to replace mine at 48K.
