Recently our 2007 Mini with 30,000 miles on it started losing the time on every start up. Then, added to this, the radio was on mute when first started. I was thinking it was the battery but it is in great shape.

The problem was related to the resetting of the maintenance reminder. The brake fluid light was illuminated and after I flushed it I reset the reminder. Evidently I skipped a step and this caused the malfunctions. Once I re-ran the reset procedure all problems were solved.

I use the search feature a lot. With any luck someday someone will search and find this thread & it will help them out.

Cool, hope it works. I have had to do run the program for resetting the service another time to correct the same problem. The key is to make sure you run the program as show in the below YouTube video that lights up all of the instrument lights and causes the tach to sweep. Also, the below link posted by 67micro is outstanding.
