2011 MCS clutch feel?

I have a 2011 MCS with 12,000 miles on it and I purchased it with 6,000. The problem I am having is what seems like a very soft clutch pedal and you can not feel the clutch engagement at all. I never really noticed this until I drove my brothers 2013 MCS which was stiff and you could feel the clutch grab and it just felt overall very sporty. I guess my question is, is there anything wrong with mine or is this normal for a 2011? I am unaware of any changes with the transmission from 2011 and 2013.

Hmmmm.... the clutch pedal action in my 2011 MCS took some getting used to. But I was used to autos, so I just had to spend some time figuring out the friction point. It does feel rather "mushy" compared to other manuals I have owned and driven. Cable clutches have a WAY better "feel" than fluid systems, IMHO. If you really feel something is wrong, bleed the clutch fluid system. I have not done this myself, so no tips on that, sorry.

The Clutch design was changed on 2011 up to softer pressure plate. Pre 2010 with orignal clutches have a harder pedal feel ? Think an 2011 should feel the same as the 2013. Unless the 2013 has some high performance aftermarket clutch, with a heavy feel ?

I know what you mean. Mine feels hard throughout it's clutch travel. Whereas I have a buddy who had a clutch that you put your foot on it and it felt like you were going to send it through the floor.

The interesting part of it was that I could not for the life of me heel and toe properly with his soft pedal but I could do it just fine on mine.

BUT yes, it is normal.

Do you know if that changed with the entire model year or at some point during the 2011 production? I have an early '11 and the clutch is somewhat stiff (a good thing IMO).

Yea, I think it was the 11' production late. Almost 2012 when the part changed and merges.

It's difficult to determine when the clutch is in full engagement, all my other cars had a quick engagement. My new OEM clutch kit is softer than the one installed at the factory.

I had my clutch replaced about 6 months ago and noticed the newer OEM clutch kit was way softer on the pedal than the clutch that was originally installed at the factory. I was told my OEM clutch kit that was used 6 months ago was the same used in the 2013 MCS and even in the JCW's and GP.

Thanks for the info system. The part number has not changed since merger the cooper S to the JCW. There must have been a redesign on the pressure plate side again. So we know the pedal feel systems is growing softer.

I know the biggest complaint from 2007-2010 typical MINI owners on a consumer report basis about the clutch was it was too hard in feeling. Like a 80' lambo or Ferrari , for those who know about that

Thanks, good to know. I'll make sure to not use stock parts when I eventually replace the clutch. I hate soft, mushy clutches.

Oh I hear you the stock clutch was a bit hard on those who live in areas where traffic is considered normal, the 80's Porsche were mad hard to depress!

The 2013 MCS clutch definitely has a MUCH softer feel than our previous 2009. It certainly took some getting used to but now I rather prefer it. The "soft" clutch is normal. What I noticed almost immediately though with our 2013 MCS was heel-toe shifting was much more difficult than our 2009 was. it feels like the gas pedal is slightly further away from the break pedal (however, it's easily resolved with aftermarket pedals).

+1 when most people change there clutch out now to the newest part number OEM clutch, they all report its softer in general and not so hard on there foot for long trips, like to the Dragon.
