Joined the R56 S Family
My R53 is been retired due to crash damage. I just made the leap to the R56 family with the purchase of a 2012 MINI Cooper S. I am wondering about a few issues with the scoop. Currently the scoop looks great but the bonnet sure does heat up. I'm wondering if adding a full mesh grill from Outmotoring will help to dissipate the heat better before I have a problem? Any suggestions?

I would suggest you read all you can about the turbo heat shield! There is a yay/nay split on them because some have experienced valve cover damage ....Melting! and surrounding hoses and wires. I guess by having them closed up it does not use surrounding air to dissipate the heat and instead traps it, hence the melting. It's all plastic under there ....I wouldn't ...just my 2 cents and we all know what that's worth! Just do some reading before pulling the trigger.

I have a 2008 Cooper S with a M7 turbo heat shield and have had zero as in nadda issues as described by americo11. But, yes do read etc those with specific experience with turbo heat shields.
Now with that said the 2012 engine compartment does have a different lay out so suggest you contact a company like M7 and discuss with them. You have start asking the correct questions so research is key but make sure you talk to 1st person sources...

That layout looks sweet Melor56...very nice indeed. I only mention the melting because of the thread I saw and it really put me off to changing anything....You are right though he should talk directly to the source and get the right info. This is the thread ..It is not the m7..so It might be good to see what their differences are.

Thanks americo11!
We were at the Wheels Across the Pond show in Jupiter Florida yesterday and of course being a primarily Brit car show the MINIs were there..so a few pics from yesterday
Here is a listing of almost everything I have done to MELO… black alloys and upgraded IC are next..
JCW Intake
JCW Cat Back Performance Exhaust
NM Engineering Turbo Piping with Muffler Delete
NM Engineering Air Charge Pipe
M7 Turbo Heat Shield
JCW Strut Tower Brace
JCW Black Aero Grill
JCW Front Discs
EBC ‘Red Stuff’ Brake Pads
3M ProShield Clear Bra
Huber Optic Ceramic Tinting
MINI Chromeline and Colorline Interior Bits
MINI-Garmin GPS
XM-Sirus Module
When I did the NM parts I could not believe the size of the intake/turbo pipe muffler…so the NM pieces made for a nice improvement

Very Nice and Damn nice garage too.. two Corvettes ? Dude you know how to play! Very nice Mini .... She/he is being very well cared for. Thanks for the shots I love to see any car that is cared for and maintained beautifully. Probably my ocd nature but they are great cars with some quirks but all cars have them. Not many are as much fun to drive. Thanks for sharing!
