Electrical problem

I stopped my 2009 manual Cooper to back into my driveway. I was sloppy with the clutch and stalled the engine. The street and driveway are sloping, and as I rolled backward I pressed the start/stop button a couple of times to restart the engine, but with no effect. I shifted out of gear and released the clutch pedal and coasted backward into the driveway, stopped, put the transmission into 1st, and pulled up the parking brake. At that point, all electrical functions are disabled, and there is a fast (5 or 6 per second) clicking noise from the vicinity of the battery. I disconnected the battery ground cable -first for a few minutes, then for several hours- in hopes of resetting the system, but to no avail. When battery is reconnected, dash lights, warning lights, and start/stop button flash repeatedly. There is still no other electrical function. Battery voltage measures 12.76 V. The nearest dealer is 60+ miles away (Pensacola). Any ideas/guesses? Thanks.

Short in the battery, do you have a load tester for the battery ? Some local auto parts stores can load test it.

Also check all the fuses and the main fuses ( block fuses ) in the engine bay.

thanks

You didn't say how old the battery is. Very good chance that is the culprit..

The battery is perhaps the most important electrical component on the car, and due to its design and nature, is perhaps one of the most troublesome. Yes, how old is it? Can buy a new battery here. DIY battery replacement here. Good luck!

Electrical problem

pull the battery and get it checked at Amy auto parts store and see what they say just because there is 12 volts doesn't mean there is enough amperage

It's not uncommon for the Mini's electrical system to act up when a battery is in need of replacement, you'll get all crazy sorts of stuff.

Electrical problem

I don't think it's a voltage issue though as he says it has 12.7 volts but again that doesn't mean it's a healthy battery

I've had batteries that read 12.8 volts but no amperage (current) for cranking over the engine.

Due to the way CANBUS opperates. Any car with a CANBUS system will do some pretty funky stuff when a battery is low/dieing.
