(New member) turbo/airfilter/inlet hose problem

So first off, glad to be on here.

I have a 2008 MC, i blew the turbo a little over a month ago. Sad day. Bought a refurbished JCW turbo as a replacement. Bought a inlet tube from Alta Performance like i did for my stock turbo... Problem is.... The pipe is too small. It measures at 45-46mm. The turbo measures at 49-50mm. So i'm not sure what happened or if minimania sent me the wrong turbo(everything else hooked up fine) so any ideas for a set up?

I was thinking about running a small air filter on the hose that comes off the valve cover and running the MAF and an air fliter off the turbo. Maybe with some random piping. Lol. Any ideas help. Trying to get finished up tomorrow. Thanks!

As you have discovered the inlet to the JCW turbo is larger than the stock S turbo. You need to get the JCW intake tube.

Here's a link to the stock JCW intake (Alta does make one, looks like you ordered the wrong one):

cerenkov will the OP have any issues with getting the target boost with the larger JCW turbo? We all know how a larger turbos sometimes have issues with proper boost levels.

The upgrade to the JCW should be a bolt-on affair, no tune necessary.

I called Alta and had them check and measure and the pipe I ordered is the correct pipe for the jcw turbo.

What part number is the turbo? Is it genuine MINI?

I will have to look in the morning. I got the car back today. New problem it is blowing white smoke from time to time and smells like burnt plastic or rubber. Just smells really bad. And it smelled like that but 10x worse when the original turbo blew. Any ideas???

Could be coolant leaking through one of the turbo seals leaking into the compressor housing. Burning coolant is white and the only other thing I would associate with white smoke is a bad turbo.

Did you replace the turbo oil feel line when installing the new turbo?

Not a bad suggestion. The turbo is a refurbished jcw turbo so it could be bad. Idk.
