R56 Blow off valve?

You have a diverter valve. I would check it to make sure that it's in good condition as it's common to see them fail at the diaphragm. Here is a good NAM thread with images and a video. It's #2 below, HERE to see an image of what it looks like. If you want, I would recommend the Forge DV as a good alternative upgrade if yours has failed.

The diverter valve is a pressure release system that "diverts" the unused pressure back into the system. It helps to prevent compressor surge.

No, it could have an issue without a CEL. I've had a bad DV (on BMW) with no CEL. You can actually hear them when they go bad. It sounded like a hissing or wooshing sound on deceleration and acceleration, but not as pronounced. It's a noise like air is escaping somewhere. I posted a link above to a thread where an individual posted a video to the noise they heard.

I hear that small whoosh sound when i take my foot off the pedal, i thought it was the intake system because i recently (three months ago) changed my stock cooper s air intake box system to a jcw tunning kit air intake box system (with oem cone filter) but i did not hear that woosh until a few days ago so i wonder if my diverter valve is bad too.

To make sure I'm reading this right... Are you guys saying that normally the swoosh sound shouldn't be there that happens when you take your foot off the accelerator?
I bought a 2010 s about a month ago with 36k miles and it makes the swoosh sound. Actually I like that sound but I came across this thread searching for cel issues as the cel light came on earlier today.

You need to get or borrow a diagnostic scan tool that plugs into your OBDII. That is the way you'll be able to read a code. You could try going to a local auto parts store as sometimes their equipment is able to read codes for you.

You guys have me thinking. I can hear an (air pressure) type hiss when i have the window down and change gear under brisk acceleration. I like the sound as it sounds like a very tame blow off valve. I thought it was normal as it is pretty muffled.
Are you saying it is the sign of a bad diverter valve? Should there be no noise? For the record my 2012 JCW is stock in the engine department.
