Can any Raleigh NC locals help a new owner to reset Check Eng Light?

Hey guys,

Just got my R55 Clubman running. Bought it with 16 bent valves and an incorrectly installed flywheel. Now, several months later she's purring like a kitten but the CEL is staying on. I don't think those generic OBD scanners at Autozone can reset the codes. Can anyone in the Apex or Raleigh/Durham area help me out? I'm trying to avoid having to take it to the dealer and bleed another $100. PM me your fav beer if you can help

Buy a cheap OBD wifi or Bluetooth connector, less than $20 and download free software to read and clear codes, comes in handy to have in your toolbox.

Really, any generic code reader will work? In that case, I'll go down to Autozone and see if theirs can do it. I'll let you guys know.

Are there different kinds of codes, like "Stored" codes that I will not be able to erase?

Update: My check engine light went away on its own. I went to autozone and sure enough, I had teh map sensor codes stored from when I forgot to plug it in this one time. I successfully erased those codes and no more popped up. I'm still waiting for the emissions system to fully diagnose itself so I can get it inspected, but to answer my initial question, Yes, a generic code reader can erase engine codes, provided they're not instantly re-enabled by the ECU due to an existing problem.
