R56 Anyone hit 200k miles on the N14 yet?
#26
Bumping this up for more N14 specific high mileage tips. I have a 2012 JCW Clubman (N14 engine) with 52k miles. Had the timing chain replaced a few years back under warranty, oil changes every 5k miles. Other than minor items, the car has been very solid (knock on wood), despite its reputation.
Recently did a walnut blast and spark plugs. Runs a lot smoother and pulls much harder now. I drive a lot of very short distances to a commuter train, which is rough on the engine.

I hit 175k last month, at 177,500 now.
2007 MCS - 5k oil changes with API SH specification oil, MANN filters. No oil consumption issues, clean valves, honest 29 mpg.
All typical failure points have been addressed, (turbo, chains, water pump etc) but keeping ahead of problems and not beating the hell out of the car, I don't see any issues getting to 200k.

Ours is at 134,000 and she's burning oil and suffers from low oil pressure if I don't run 10w40 in it. Hoping to get another 5k out of her but the clock is indeed ticking. Hard to say how it was treated early on in its life but I think it's safe to say that the recommended oil change intervals have contributed to what I consider premature wear. Not much you can do now except keep that oil topped up and be gentle. Oh and build another engine.....

Liqui-Molly isn't available around here but I did order some off Amazon for our last oil change. It was $70 a jug and made no difference at all. I don't have any leaks as they have been addressed in the past. No there's just no way to slap a bandaid on worn pistons and rings. I haven't had the cylinder head off this motor yet but I tore one down last weekend and the cylinder wear / piston slop was unreal! It also had a spun rod bearing so it was a hurting unit all round.

I must be one of the lucky ones, other than the drip or two of oil or burning it mine has been good. My oil was getting dark quick like 1k and it was looking like time to change, now it’s been hard to read the stick it’s so clean. It’s so hit or miss with these things, but how many people knew to be so **** on maintenance when these were new?
I went to Amazon to get all the liqui moly stuff as well since I have the same problem. Hell if it isn’t Mobil 1, castrol, valvoline, or store brand you are pretty much out of luck. Might be able to get royal purple in 5w-30.
