Bumping this up for more N14 specific high mileage tips. I have a 2012 JCW Clubman (N14 engine) with 52k miles. Had the timing chain replaced a few years back under warranty, oil changes every 5k miles. Other than minor items, the car has been very solid (knock on wood), despite its reputation.

Recently did a walnut blast and spark plugs. Runs a lot smoother and pulls much harder now. I drive a lot of very short distances to a commuter train, which is rough on the engine.

I hit 175k last month, at 177,500 now.

2007 MCS - 5k oil changes with API SH specification oil, MANN filters. No oil consumption issues, clean valves, honest 29 mpg.
All typical failure points have been addressed, (turbo, chains, water pump etc) but keeping ahead of problems and not beating the hell out of the car, I don't see any issues getting to 200k.

Hello! What is the failure point of the turbo? Is there a list of these failure points somewhere I can see to plan some preventative maintenance? Thanks!

Over 200 I hit the 2’s

Way over 200. Still runs great. Full compression. Frequent oil changes and a 70 mile daily commute trip keeps it ticking. I’ve had more trouble with the electronics and cooling systems than the engine.

I bought one has 247,689 miles for $1500. Clean car but has a slipping clutch did not want to start anymore, per the seller. I responded to his ad on facebook market and headed out there started the car using the magnet trick on the clutch switch. Seller was ecstatic his mini was alive once again. I asked him what did he do to reach such high mileage? He said, " Just watch the oil make sure it is changed every 3000 miles and keep that turbo oil tapped to the top. Well I be damned the guy did a good job taking care of that N14 is impressive.

247,689 miles N14 engine running strong!

Ours is at 134,000 and she's burning oil and suffers from low oil pressure if I don't run 10w40 in it. Hoping to get another 5k out of her but the clock is indeed ticking. Hard to say how it was treated early on in its life but I think it's safe to say that the recommended oil change intervals have contributed to what I consider premature wear. Not much you can do now except keep that oil topped up and be gentle. Oh and build another engine.....

Try a liqui moly engine flush and make sure you let everything drain out. Then put liqui moly oil and a bottle of liqui moly oil saver back in. I’m at 800 miles into oil change, no drips on drive way, no more oil burning smells while driving, and so far only down 1/4 qt of oil, I burn around 1 qt every 1200 so it’s definitely doing better. Car does run smoother and quieter now as well.

Liqui-Molly isn't available around here but I did order some off Amazon for our last oil change. It was $70 a jug and made no difference at all. I don't have any leaks as they have been addressed in the past. No there's just no way to slap a bandaid on worn pistons and rings. I haven't had the cylinder head off this motor yet but I tore one down last weekend and the cylinder wear / piston slop was unreal! It also had a spun rod bearing so it was a hurting unit all round.

I must be one of the lucky ones, other than the drip or two of oil or burning it mine has been good. My oil was getting dark quick like 1k and it was looking like time to change, now it’s been hard to read the stick it’s so clean. It’s so hit or miss with these things, but how many people knew to be so **** on maintenance when these were new?

I went to Amazon to get all the liqui moly stuff as well since I have the same problem. Hell if it isn’t Mobil 1, castrol, valvoline, or store brand you are pretty much out of luck. Might be able to get royal purple in 5w-30.

I was struggling with reading the oil level as well and I couldn't stomach the cost of the aftermarket dipsticks...but then...once again Amazon provided. It arrived and it was too long so I shortened it up and now all is well. Cost like $15.

Sorry, but I'm still at just 49,000 miles. I only put on 200 miles this year and I'll be putting my car away for the winter shortly. I'm hoping to drive it more in 2021.
