Intercooler?

Okay so looking to buy an intercooler and wonder what kind of improvements I can expect from doing so. Will this actually increase power or just help it run cooler? Also what is the best most affordable brand? Also what are the prices on said brand and where can I find it? This is for a 2012 mini cooper s n18 engine. Not sure if the N18 aspect matters for this mod.

On the Dyno it's only 4-6hp gain on one cool pull, but the having an IC allows your car to do back to back pulls with out losing crazy HP/TQ on each pull. It's not so much power you make, but how much your keep.
Forge and Wanger are good.
Let me know if you need a tune to go with your new IC
Thanks
Mario

There's sometimes a group buy on intercoolers here. That's how I got mine. Do a search on the marketplace.

The Helix Stepped core Intercooler is the design pioneer and performance leader in R56 intercooler design. We developed the original stepped core design, and have published loads of data, both dyno and on road. We running a special of free shipping until January 1 for the R56 intercooler.

What is the cost on one and where can I go to get it? Is there any modding that needs to be done to the car or does it just simply attach normally?

^There's a boat load of info Here^. There's no modding or cutting required: it's fully reversible if you ever sell the car and want to make a few bucks on the intercooler.

I highly recommend the Helix intercooler.
It was a very easy, and straight forward install with no cutting or modifications. It was recommended to me by cerenkov, and he has tested both the Forge and Helix versions. ...Definitely helps keep my MATs cooler here in Florida.

What are IATs? Sorry if that's a noob question. Does it increase performance at all though to an extent that you noticed? This is a fairly expensive upgrade for my budget.

Intake Air Temperature (I corrected my post since its not IAT, its really MAT - Manifold Air Temperature). Not really noticeable on the "butt dyno" but its a necessary upgrade for a Stage 2+ tune.

An intercooler on the R56 chassis is one of the best bang for the buck mods as you will actually feel the gains when you drive. I've logged a ton on the temp drops and the best will get you down to 2 deg over ambient.

We offer a couple good options and are happy to discuss with you to help you make the right decision. We also have FREE Shipping this month for orders over $150
