Did you check over the basics, i.e. check for spark and fuel? Any codes present in the system?

Although you are getting it to crank, still check the battery so that you can rule it out of the equation. I have seen instances where a bad battery was in the mix of things even if the vehicle cranked. Be sure to check spark, fuel injector pulse and fuel pressure, volume, quality and engine compression. Do you have a scan tool that you can plug into your OBDII port to see if any faults are present in the system?

We have one here for MINI specifically.

We just landed this Schwaben by Foxwell tool and it reads allot of things, I used it for ABS testing and it pulls and tells which side is bad. Also found allot of old stored codes for a dead battery in my R58 which is like a history lesson of the car, showed the faults in the climate control for the low battery. Unlike my Actron unit , which took a couple time, this read codes right of the bat. Pretty cool device and read much more. What it all preforms is listed in the Product Details on the item.

Once you have a check engine light or sometimes it will find codes that dont have a Check engine light, you can find that P code PXXXX and then google search it or copy and paste into the MINI forums search box and presto , you have some answers.

You could swing by your local Autozone and see if they can pull a code for you if you do not wish to buy a scan tool, but obviously would need a running car. Maybe you can borrow one from a friend? Once you do some digging let me know what you find out.

You going to buy a new motor or depending on the extent of the damage do a rebuild?

Oh no. ;( If the heads make contact with the valves, then the pistons and valve train , plus rebuild the head and timing. If more broke or bent in the engine then the cost of a remain would be cheaper or a salvage one.

Factory Remain went up in price since last year :

There was a TSB were one of the cars with the updated tensioner bulletin. if yours was not done. I had mine done. You can call the dealer and they can run your vin. It was 2007-~2009 MCS that had the older tensioner style and if your chain was stretched they replaced it also. If you have the old tensioner or the the TSB had not been done, they might work with you.

The November recall? Why would Mini replace the entire engine?
