Thermo and Water Pump... OEM or not?

Hey guys,

I'm on a budget here. My clutch, thermostat, and water pump all went out in the same week. It's going to cost a lot of money, and I'm doing the clutch OEM instead of buying a better performance one, and having it done professionally. However, the thermostat and water pump I am going to do myself.

The link above is Pelican Parts water pumps for my '07.

This link above is to the thermostats.

My mechanic friend insists that if I want to keep the car I should go OEM. Could you guys share an opinion or some advice? The OEM parts are the most expensive.

We also have water pump super kits since you have to do the thermostat and pump at the same time. Should check them out HERE. Otherwise, for those parts in particular OEM supplier or Genuine parts are the way to go. The kit has the OEM supplier water pump and Genuine thermostat. Let me know if you have any questions.

So just to confirm... You recommend MINI manufactured parts for these particular circumstances.

OEM is smart for most things, but many vendors are able to source the OE aftermarket parts at a much cheaper price. The Saleri pump is the same pump but neutralized of the BMW/MINI logos.

Saleri, Febi, Lemforder are all OE manufacturer companies for MINI, so they are all safe alternatives to MINI OE parts.

MINI Genuine parts or OEM supplier parts, yes. So for the pump either Genuine or Saleri and the thermostat I would stick to Genuine.

Thanks , for the pump you can go with Febi as another option and get the metal impeller. We carry the genuine water pump also that has the update metal housing.

Genuine thermostat is on Back order. But we offer other alternatives that are the same just a lower cost.

I was going to order the OEM water pump for you and did not notice until reading this post that it was on backorder. I need my car running, man! Thanks for the DIY. I might have to give the extra cash to Pelican Parts if I can't get it on a schedule from you.

EDIT

Sorry, ECS. If I did my pump from Pelican by Saleri and then the thermo from you I would have to pay shipping to both sites. If I did the thermo (on backorder) from you although it's slightly cheaper then the price would be $225.50. If I do both from Pelican it's $228... I can afford the $3.

The OEM water pump (Saleri HERE) is much cheaper than the Genuine and is in stock ready to go. We have the Genuine thermostat in stock at another supplier HERE (click more info), which is cheaper than the one back ordered. With both you get free shipping and should ship tomorrow. Let me know if you have any questions.

I've already ordered the Saleri and the OEM from you as of about 45 minutes ago. The link to the thermo you gave me says:

"Note: We can't confirm this part will fit your 2007 Mini Cooper S Hatchback."

However, if you would like to take a look at my order and pricematch it for me, it would make me one happy customer.

We have another thermostat available, ( its in the link ) same design as the Genuine , just a lower cost option. Also the Febi one has a metal impeller some people perfer. Most places has the thermostat on Back order, they just dont show it on there sites , so be careful. If you need any help on the install , let me know, done many of them myself. 2 MINI owner here.
