You can make anything fit, technically speaking. As long as you are willing to do some fabrication. But as far as a direct swap, no.

The automatic transmissions are identical between the R53 and R56 non S. So that would help some. But that is the only easy part IMO.

You would also have to use R53 as donor car for DME and BCM. Door handles are identical so swap those too so key fits in drivers side. And you would have to swap over the main harness, engine harness, then there will be lots of splicing going on. Would also run into electrical issues for compatibility of resistance in lines between the R53's BCM and what it is reading at the other end of the wires for lights, modules, and gauges ect....Then there's the compatibility of the R53 DME being able to control the steering and damping when in sport mode as the steering rack in the R56 is not hydraulic....its electronic.

Why would you go through all this hassle ? I see many JCW N14 engines with high mileage, and the feel of their raw power (similar to R53 ) they provide IMO is really impressive. Especially with some tuning tweaks.....

The reason why I am asking is because I have an 07 Cooper S hard. I got it around 65k. About a month and a half ago the car stopped starting. I brought her over to the local mini dealership and they told me that I needed a new motor and it was gonna cost 12k which is pretty wild. I'm just trying to find the cheapest solution to a blown motor.

Your cheapest solution at this point is a new car. For 12k you can get another mini used with an N18.

Did they say exactly what was wrong with it?

They told me that the crankshaft sensor has been bad since the car hit about 40k. Like I said I got the car at 65k so it was before I got it and it's now at 76k. So since driving 30k without fixing it, they told me it ruined my engine. I was told it is 110 degrees out of timing. They couldn't say much more because I wasn't going to pay for them to take off the head. Would've cost a couple thousand just for them to tell me that I needed a new engine anyways.

Did you have a code for the crank sensor?
