Mini, isn't there a way to get ibs reset without going to the stealership? I thought I read somewhere on here about that.

Again with the battery replacement.
1. Take it a big box auto parts store.
2. Tell 'em you need a new battery, here's the old one, would you please look it up to get the right one.
3. Tell 'em they need to hook it up to a stand by power source so it's little brain doesn't die.
4. Drive away - after paying the tab.

No IBS module on the negative cable, so no programming needed.
BTW, although it's not entirely clear from your picture, the numbers stamped on your negative terminal seem to say '08??!! - which would make sense for a 2009 model year car with its ORIGINAL BATTERY.
If so, you sure seem to have gotten your money's worth out of that one! Dispose of it with reverence.
And consider splurging for an Autocraft H6 (Group 48) AGM (760CCA / 950A) available at Advance Auto - taking advantage of all available discounts, and ASSUMING IT FITS YOUR 2009 MCS (it DID fit my 2011 MCS).

Answered your question in the other thread. Your unit does not have the IBS module. Lots of info and pictures of batteries that do and do not have the unit HERE. Also, that thread gives info about our article that shows you how to register it yourself if you have the right tools.

I replaced my battery with a larger AGM from advance auto, but even though I put 9 v battery thing in the cigarette lighter and turned ignition switch on without starting I lost clock time ( which I reset ) and now my windows don't auto up with a single long up on the switch. My drivers side seems to have relearned after a day, hoping the passenger side will soon also. Wonder what else I may have lost.
Edit: I read a thread. Just turn engine on and run window down all he way hold switch down for five seconds then run window all the way up and then hold switch up for five seconds. Now it has relearned auto up.

I recently had my battery replaced at Batteries Plus. Initially, they told me they couldn't replace the battery because their reference computer was telling them that my MINI had an IBS (intelligent battery sensor) that when replacing the battery, needed to be registered by the dealer (MINI) and if it wasn't the car would not go over 25mph. I immediately saw dollar signs!!! So, I returned home and looked here for any threads addressing the situation. I found this one and was able to determine that my car DOESN'T have the IBS on the negative battery cable. Information in this thread is correct and was a huge help in saving me $$$. I returned to Batteries Plus, showed them what I had found, along with pictures comparing IBS and non-IBS negative cables. They confirmed it on my MINI and then installed a new battery. I have had zero issues with the new battery.
