Solenoid Valve (SOLV), Location

Good afternoon. I found a thread from March of 2012, by member "IXX", which sounds very much like what we are experiencing. "2007 MCS unknown problem. Rough idle, stalling, No fault code". I did not see this post until after I had trailered the car to the Dealer. The Dealer said that we need one hour ($129.00), to diagnose the problem. Well, there were a few problems that were brought on by a different shop that had to be addressed first , so now with THREE more hours of diagnosis, they say that they think that there is vacuum leak, but they need another 6-7 hours to "make sure"!!! I am going to take the car back home, we are at app. $2500.00 and three months to do a head gasket, and it is still not running (idling) right. "IXX", said that he found a solenoid (SOLV), to be the problem, but I can't find the name or location in the Bentley Manual. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it! Just an "Old School Mechanic", trying to figure out all these "Electronics".... Thank You, Don P.S. The car is a 2009 Mini S R56, N14.

Thank you "GAT". I really don't know! Like I wrote in my post, "IXX, called it the SOLV," if that does translate to VANOS, then I guess that is it, but I can't find any translation. Don
