I just purchased a used 2011 Mini Cooper S R56 with 65k and according to the car fax the timing chain was never replaced. When I start-it it makes a ticking noise. I wasn't sure if i was effected by the Timing chain problem, i believe it has the N18 engine since it has a cover over the spark plug wires and spark plugs (they are not visible), Worried since i just purchased it. Also it does need an oil change soon according to the Minis computer.
Its the injectors that make the ticking noise , on the n18 the timing chain is not so much an issue as it is on the early n14 engines. Do you have a video. Do the oil change at 5000 - 7500 miles and you will be fine. Which is early compared to the computer which might be set at 10K or 15K.
Oil kits here : For the oil go with the LL-01 recommended above or the ones we have in our oil service kits, they are also LL-01 . The Porsche stock mobile 1 is also the same for MINI.
