2011 Mini Cooper S HB engine malfunctoon
Hi all,
I've searched some threads and am having issues with my 2011 MCS hatch w 103k miles
It is throwing codes p0300,p0301, p0304, p0302, p0087
It started w a CEL misfire in cylinder 3 code Sunday but now the half engine sign is giving me "engine malfunction" almost all the time when the car runs for 5-10 minutes until I restart it. I seafoamed it (didn't smoke much when I did) and ordered one spark plug Monday (still waiting on shipping!) I had all four plugs and coils replaced in January. I switched coils 1 and 3 and nothing changed.
Ideas?
Is this safe to commute 60 miles to work today?
It ran and accelerated fine until the "engine malfunction" came on--I want to trade this car this summer so was hoping not to dump $1500 into it for a fp or something
Thanks

what a hot mess. I has few MCs but none had issues like this. One however did give me misfire on 1 and 3. after timing chain replacement still did the same thing. I did compression test and it appeared the piston had tapped the valves and bent them. SO, do a compression test and see what you get. if indeed no or little pressure, you might be in for a valve job. Time consuming, but doable. I've done at lease three times on different cars.

Very helpful--I had to borrow an aunts '85 318i
Anyhow I changed plug #3 --looks bad--engine malfunction message went away but CEL is still on
I'm thinking valves myself...need to borrow a compression test as mine has rotted lol

You can have someone start the engine, and you may feel the pressure off of that piston if it is shooting air out or not. also, you can pour something like valve cleaner into the cylinder and see if it stays when you start the car with the plug out of course. Finally, hand rotate the crankshaft clockwise and see if that cylinder is wet. Or just use the compression test tool
