Driver wiper fairing?

Front wipers are worn out. I've had great experiences on other vehicles with the newer beam style wipers and was wondering if any of you have swapped yours over to the beam type.

Question: Is the spoiler/fairing thing on the driver side necessary? If I were to replace the wiper with should it be carried over? The BMW parts vendor pic shows no fairing, but also no holes to mount the existing one.

I know there will be 100 different opinions but, what do you use and why, thanks

Greg

I replaced my 08 S wipers with Bosch Icon beam style and they worked just fine. The fairing is not required if you replace it with beam style. I liked bosch icon, held up fine over the year of use, and then I switched to Michelin Blade Stealth since there was a promotion on Amazon recently. I think you can't go wrong with either. At $20 per wiper it's more expensive but you only have to replace them once every year or so, or when you think the wiper performance has degraded significantly.

Thanks for the input, good to know. I always pick up the beams from Rockauto with other orders so I don't get dinged for shipping on them alone their prices can be pretty low for them. The Icons and Trico Neoforms have been great on other vehicles.
