A common problem that causes this is the sunroof drain gets clogged. Easiest fix is to blow some compressed air through the drain hole in the roof (corner above passenger...also on driver's side). It drains behind the side marker light. If it is the sunroof drain (if you have a sunroof), don't delay in getting it taken care of because water can get into the electrical panel in the passenger footwell and that's expensive to fix.

The other possible cause that I know of is the AC condensate drain. That gets clogged sometimes at the end (mold), which is under the firewall and can be accessed from under the car. It can back up and overflow into the passenger compartment.

I'm no expert in this area - just what I've heard.

Let us know what you find....

Ok. Cool. Thx. I just got the car about 3 months ago, and with the recent rain I noticed it. I dont havr a sun roof. So possibly the a/c. I will look into it.
Anyone else encounter this problem? Thx!

I had this same exact problem and ended up getting really bad mold allergies from it. I had a sunroof and the dealer diagnosed it as an unconnected drain tube. Got it fixed for about $400 at an independent shop.

If you don't have a sunroof I would guess these drains don't exist? Post the last 7 of your VIN and I can look on RealOEM to see if they are an option on your car. The AC drain I haven't heard of before, but it sounds possible. Less possible, though, if there seems to be a correlation with water getting on the car and then your floor getting wet.

As far as I can tell the drain tubes only come with the sunroof, which makes sense.

I'd probably go to the dealer and talk to the service managers, they might have a better idea of what is going on. Or you might be able to just give them a call. Does it look like there are any holes in the glazing around the roof?

Sunroof drains aren't terribly common causes of leaks on these cars, but not to be ruled out.

Have you had a windshield installed as of recent? Had the weatherstripping around the passenger door removed for any reason? Both of these are also common reasons for water ingress.

I had water in mine coming in from the roof-line where the PO had cut the gasket to put on a roof rack. Does/Did your car have a rack? You should be able to tell pretty easily if there was on there before.

It doesn't seem like there was a roof rack installed previously. Im out of ideas. Guess I might take it to dealer, they charge 175 just to diagnose the problem😑

Check under the black lexan A pillar trim pieces on either side of the windshield. Often times when windshield glass is replaced by anyone but dealer, these pieces often are forgotten and not put back in. They not only divert air/wind noise, but also water from getting inside the car........

If you don't have a good independent near you, you might consider a good body shop.

I have not been driving my 2007 Mini R56s much lately as it has been phased out for a Miata. Had it since new... when I drove it yesterday... if smelt musty. When I investigated the rear seat, trunk and rear passenger footwell was full of water. After taking it all apart, drying and cleaning I tested the roof drains after cleaning drains out. They seem to work AOK with a glass of water dumped down each drain, however when I tested with a full force garden hose it leaked in the rear again (car was on a slight incline as it was when parked. Is there a limit to how much water can drain? I would think it would be designed to handle a very heavy thunderstorm.

I had a similar problem on my 08 MCS. I have a sunroof but it turned out the drain tube was not the problem. Figured that out after i stripped the liner and the pillar to diagnose.

Believe it or not, the door jam seal gasket was my issue. I went over every possible entry point and found that my gasket was slightly out of place in one area and water was draining into the car behind the gasket and leaking into the driver footwell slowly but steady. Im in the Pacific Northwest so with constant rain it became an issue pretty quick.

I had to remove my drivers seat and basically air dry the liner and footwell for well over 2 weeks to get the water out. If you find the source of the leak, I recommend stripping your interior and keeping an eye on it to make it sure it doesn't come back before packing it up. Will save you a lot of frustration in the end.

I've been dry for almost 9 months now, hopefully you find your fix - Good luck!
