Half CEL limp mode

So I stopped by the mini dealership so they can scan the code that's throwing it into limp mode....but they need 2hours to diagnose the problem and $140 to even take a look at it. Is this normal? I know major part stores you can borrow a scanner...and they are generic codes but is there any advantage of paying $140 for a dealer scan? Will they find the exact reason for it to trip?

I don't want to spend that if I don't need to...

Thanks

I would get a free scan or buy your own reader first. That might give you some ideas and you can search or post here for other owners tips. You can then escalate as needed to a qualified indy shop or dealer if needed. I paid the dealer for scan knowing in advance what the answer was and that they would cover the issue, so In the end I spent nothing.

HPFP, fuel pump more than likely covered under extended warranty. My 2011 was covered. Just my best guess.

That's what I think it is too. It doesn't come on all the time. Just sporadically. I bought this car used in November from a Chevy dealer. So not sure if it's gonna be covered or not. We will see. I saw the recalls are for most n14 engines. And mines the n18

So it was indeed the HPFP and even tho mine is an n18 engine, they said it's still covered under the extended warranty. I bought my car pre-owned from a non mini dealer. So if people search to see if they can get theirs fixed. They should be able to as well. My mini is an 11' r56s with 59456 miles.

The early N18 motors (pre April 2012) use the older Continental HPFP. I haven't seen any N18 HPFP failures on the later models using the Bosch HPFP
