I am conflicted on whether to call my 2013 Mini a Mini S or a JCW.
It started out life as a 2013 Mini S. Then the previous owner went and installed pretty much every JCW and GP upgrade possible.
It has all of the upgradeable factory JCW parts for a Mini S including the tuning kit, exhaust, intake, suspension, and brakes. The car also has all of the aerodynamic bits from a 2013 GP, under trays and spoilers. The interior is full GP model with the rear seat delete and strut bar. Recaro JCW front seats all of the correct JCW trim and shifter.
It is a beautifully done car, but something in the back of my head says it isn't really a JCW as it doesn't have the JCW turbo. It is the 197 hp tune setup.
It does have the official JCW exterior badging which comes with the tuning kit. So what do you say? JCW or MCS?
DAMN Slick Mini! WHat's in a name? when you get on the street and can blow off nearly everything on the road all they will see is your taillights, not your badging.
That car cost so much more than a fJCW it's sick. Do you know how much he put in it by any chance? How much did you pay for it? The Recaro seats alone were probably 3 grand. Heck they were a $2700 option on my car.
It's a sweet car for sure but it's still an MCS to me. Putting the JCW badges on it is like all the people that put ///M badges on their 335's.
I can definitely relate to this. The car I had before the Mini was a 2002 e39 M5. There was a lot of discussion about people putting ///M badges on their non M BMWs. It isn't uncommon to see 540i with Msport bumpers sporting a fake ///M badge.

I don't have all of the receipts but for what I do have, he purchased the car for $18k. Then he put $24k worth of parts on it. I purchased the car for $25k. There was $4k worth into the seats since you asked. He swapped the entire interior including a full carbon fiber trim set.
The previous owner was a major Mini enthusiast, he has owned over 20 of them, this was just a project car for him.
JCW exhaust? I have the same situation except that I tuned up to 210 hp. Its an "S" with a Works upgrade. All the Fun...but cheaper insurance.
What did you do to get up to 210 hp out of curiosity? The factory upgraded JCW tune for the S is 197 hp, which is where I am at.
I am keenly aware of the cheaper insurance. Actually I am quite happy on that front as it is significantly cheaper to insure than the e39 M5 I had before the Mini.
JCW catback, Afe Power Dry Panel drop-in air filter, hot side boost tube and a series1 JB+
Sounds like some nice modifications.

Quite the opposite for the Mini. It gets a lot of attention, especially from little kids. The M5 was very much a sleeper, it looked like an old BMW. On very rare occasion someone who knew what it was would get supper excited but usually the M5 was 99% under the radar.
