First start of Rebuilt engine

Did a full rebuild on my MCS and I want to start it up for the first time and check it out but I don't have my exhaust (Cat back) for another week. Does the engine need back pressure from the exhaust to keep from blowing out your rings or is it safe to start it up with just the down pipe on?

thanks in advance for any help

Ideally you don't want back pressure, you want scavenging which an exhaust system can help do. That said, the turbo itself provides plenty of restriction.

I would wait for the exhaust. Would be easier to hear if anything isn't right.

Had to start it I have no patience 😂. Mostly I wanted to run it and see if any codes popped up. I have p1775 and p1776 is there a code list on NAM? The other thing I was wondering g is how long should I break it in before dropping the oil?
