Cams, pistons, valves

I've been researching cams, pistons, and valves. Not having built a mini engine before and run it for a few million miles afterward I don't have experience.

Can anyone share their experiences, tragedies, or just common sense.

Pistons - looking into Wiseco and Supertech
Rods - Supertech
Valves -Supertech or the valves from JM turbocoopers (oversize solid metal)
Guides - JM turbocoopers steel guides or Supertech
