Sounds like you may have finished off the clutch trying to pull out in 3rd gear. Burnt and/ premature clutch failure on most mini models is well documented here on NAM. Use the search function. This is one of the many, many treads that discuss this:

Welcome to the forum.
It's customary to put your vehicle specs in your signature. I'm assuming that 61 Plate means 2013-2016 - R61 Paceman S & Non-S

And we like pics.

I still don’t understand the system since it’s apparently based on the time of registration, but I think 61 plate is referring to the year of the car. I’ve seen this reference a lot on the UK based Minitorque forum. A new(??) car is 17 plate if registered between March and August 2017 and 67 plate from September 2017 to February 2018

So is this post is referring to a 2011 or 2012 R56 S that was registered(bought new??) between September 2011 and February 2012?

I wonder why this convention started instead of just referring to the car by model year?
