Blow off valve adapter? Is it bad? or ok?
Hello everyone. I have a 2011 r-56 cooper S 6-speed (117K miles, chili pack). I was interested in getting a blow off valve adapter, particularly: https://www.torquesolution.com/blow-...s-r56-bovs.htm
My question/concern is...is this at all bad for my engine or turbo? if this is going to damage or reduce the life of the engine or turbo, then I will pass.
it does not replace the stock diverter valve. it mounts to the right side of the turbo. it states it is compatible with the factory ecu and does not cause a CEL.
thanks.

Get yourself a new recirculating/diverted valve while you are at it.
you still have to have a properly running recirculating valve for the blow off to be good.
i just did mine and new recirculating valve.
but with my cold air intake the blow off valve swoosh is no different if not maybe quieter than when it blew off into the engine.
i still get the swoosh but I don’t think it’s *** loud.

Word to the wise on the blow off valve...
1) some models will hit the wastegate actuator and you have to grind down that spot on the blow off, not a huge deal but have a grinder or big file available.
2) it will interfere with the waterline to the turbo, it does on my 2013. Because the water line passes directly in front of the stock diverter valve, and now the diverter sticks out further, you have to manhandle the water line to get it reconnected to the turbo and this, this I do not like one bit.
I never saw saw a single video anywhere say this, but it’s hard to find honest videos
as these people are paid to review, and my 2013 R56 N18 just doesnt have a lot for videos. Most videos are on N14 engines or something not a Cooper S
This is the recirc valve, it’s a newer style than most of us have on our cars.

here is the the blow off valve I wouldn’t by this one, not for that much money, look on the China shops, they are under $10.

My son has a N14 And we installed the plate in about 30 minutes. But on my wife’s N 18 motor It hits the wasregate on the bolt closest to the front of the car. Need to grind or file it down if I want to make it work. So I am one of those examples that has both a working and nonworking set up. But my son likes the sound when he is really on the throttle. If his RPMs are low it doesn’t make any noise
