Sensor with cut wires ?!?!
Hello everyone , this is my first post here !
So I just bought a 2011 mini cooper jcw and I was looking at the turbo inlets for oil and just checking the general condition of it when I stumble on a sensor ,near the turbo, with cut wires !
Heres a picture .
Can anybody tell me what that sensor does ? I am not getting any check engine lights.
Thanks !!

The originL thermostat has about 6 pipes coming out of it as well as an intergrated temp sensor. Before long people started coming back to the dealer with bad temp sensors. Rather than replacing those expensive thermostat housings just to get a new temp sensor in there, they replaced one of the pipes with 2 pipes and an elbow with a temp sensor in it. that is what you are looking at, that elbow with the temp sensor. There was eventually a new part with a replaceable temp sensor, which is probably what you have now. That elbow deal was a quick temp fix for the dealers.
Anyway, there is a little more to this story, but I think you get the gist. Perhaps other can confirm or add other deatails.
I believe you've got an N14 engine since its a JCW. I have a 2011 too but its an N18, so I could be wrong about the thermostat.
