R56 Starting problem

So I am in the process of buying my manager's 2007 Mini Cooper S. He said it needed a starter. When trying to start it just would click but not turn over. So we push started it. I drove it to a friends house. It drove fine. I ordered a new starter and put it in today. When i hit the button to start it the motor turns on then. Then it turns off and the starter continues to turn the motor over. I hit the button to stop it and it doesn't. I even take the key out and it continues to turn over. It only stops when I disconnect the battery. I even tried to connect a OBD scanner to see whats going on and it wouldn't connect. Is there something else wrong? I called the previous owner (my manager) and asked him if it was doing that and thats why the starter finally went out. He said no. Not sure what it can be. Anyone have any ideas?

Based on the wiring diagram, the signal is directly coming from the CAS, Car Access System.

There is a chance BUT you need high level diagnostics to make sure. ISTAD is one powerful sw that is a must. Or, if you're near someone who has it, they could run through the sw. Also, inspect the fuse box behind the passenger kick panel for water leaks if the car has a sunroof.

Ok, I'll have to see if someone local has that. In the mean time I'll look behind the fusebox. It does have a sunroof.
