Spare tire carrier not tight

2009 Base.

Just checked my spare tire carrier and it has play in it. I can wobble it a bit from side to side. Not a big deal, but I'm thinking it may be giving me a bit of a rattle when driving.

I removed and inspected it and the bolt is tight.

Is there a bit of play in your carriers or are they tight?

Mine is tight. Have you checked the three plastic nuts that hold the carrier underneath the car?

I found the source of the problem.

When you snap the spare and carrier into place, three rubber pads press against the wheel of the spare.

I glued three additional pads over the original pads, which were worn. I also added a rubber gasket around the center hole of the wheel where it will meet the carrier.

All is tight now
