Aisin ATF -- who has used Toyota T-IV fluid?

Hi,

As I prepare to start doing ATF changes in our 2012 mini, I've read a number of forum threads about the compatibility of the various fluids ... from what I have gathered Toyota Type T-IV fluid is the same as the Aisin JWS 3309, it is the only type of fluid I can get locally, and it is substantially cheaper than any of the other named options. But before I pick up some and put it in our Mini, I would like to get some confirmation from other folks who have used it successfully in their Mini Aisin 6 speed auto transmissions. I figure this should be useful to Mini owners all around as Toyota dealerships are readily accessible.

I don't want to start yet another discussion on which types or brands of ATF work best ... I'm just interested in the Toyota fluid. So ...

If you have used Toyota Type T-IV fluid in your ATF, please post here and let us know your model year, fluid change history, and how it is working out for you.

Thanks. John

You have to use fluid that meets that JWS 3309, should be fine, lots of manufacturers share the same trans as MINI. Make sure you change the filter out also.

+1

I use Castrol TRANSMAX™ Import Multi-vehicle transmission fluid & I find that it works very well.

Okay I bit the bullet ... picked up 6 qts Toyota T-IV and did 3 x 2qt drain-and-fills ... so far so good ... the first drain was dark brown and dirty looking, like a nice chocolate stout ... the third drain was reddish brown ... so I think I'm good for a while now. I haven't driven it much yet but the shifts feel a bit smoother already..

John - I did 3 x 2 qt. drain-and-fills when I did mine also. I think that's the way to go. I think you're fine with Toyota fluid. I felt the difference right away also.

2011 R56 Mini One with GA6F21WA AISIN 6-SPEED Automatic Transmission mileage at 110000 miles using Toyota Type T-IV ATF.

Managed to gravity drained out 4 litres and replace with 4 litres of Toyota Type T-IV. Experiencing smoother gear shift and low gear no more jerky.
