Wheel Fitment

I just purchased a set of Sparco Terra Wheels 16x7 4x100 et42, I figured I'd stick close to stock and get a little wider rim so I can put 205 55 r16 on them for more grip and im not a fan of the stock runflats. I know OEM fitment requires et 48 for 195 55 r16, my question is will I need wheel spacers for the sparco wheels? Im on stock suspension so im too worried about rubbing more so if the rim will clear the caliper.

Hi Pal. I think you may be cutting it close. For security I would run 5/10mm spacers. When I went from 15” OEM to 17” OEM R211 Wheels w/205–45-17 Michelin Tires I barely can fit my pinky between the shock and tire.

However, when you moved up to 17" OEM wheels, you maintained an ET of 48, I believe. The OP is moving to an ET of 42, which moves the wheel away from the strut/spring and closer to the edges of the fender. The tire diameter will be slightly greater as well.

I have had pretty good luck using this site for determining wheel clearances in the past. You can measure your current fender clearance now and plug it into this computer to compare, but I am thinking everything should fit fine on stock suspension.

I would consult your manual, or call a Mini specialist before taking a chance of doing the wrong thing.

You are already pushing the wheeel ouboard by 6mm moving from ET 48 to ET 42..... so I would try what you have and look closely for clearance issues... I doubt you will have any. Also... on that same car... optional ET 48 x 7", 17' wheels are mounted at the factory with 205 tires.... I think you would actually have MORE clearance with your setup on those Sparco Terras with the 205/55/16's than a factory 205/45/17 on factory wheels.
