Rear hatch unlocks by itself!

Every once and a while the rear hatch unlocks itself while driving the car. Any thoughts as to why this might be happening?

I carry my key fob in my pocket and sometimes my wallet or something else in my pocket will press the button and unlock the hatch. Maybe that’s what’s happening to you.

Nope. This is while the engine is running and the fob is in the ignition slot.

My 2013 R56S has been doing the same thing occasionally for a few years. It usually happens when the engine is running, but not necessarily, and always with the key fob in the slot.

The dealership's service manager has no idea what is causing it. He wanted to keep the car for a couple days so a mechanic could drive it around in the hope of catching it in the act, but I didn't like the idea in general, plus it's so random that I didn't think they were likely to catch it.

I'm wondering if something is coming into contact with the hatch unlock button (edit: on the fob) when the fob is inside the slot, but I can't see anything that might do that.

It's a bit frustrating. I always try to remember to check the hatch when I leave the car.

I'd open up the rear switch/tag light and see if there's any water intrusion ..... it comes off with just a couple of torx screws (4 I think) . . .

#6 holds the micro-switch for the release . . .

could be water or even just a loose connection ... unplug it and use a lil contact cleaner and re-seat ....

Does this require removing the inner panel from the hatch, or is it all done from the outside?
