Weighted Shift *****?

My wife bought me a replacement shift **** but when I compared the one I removed and the original, the replacement is really light.

I’ve read a lot about weighted *****. What’s the benefit of a heavier shift ****? How much does the OEM **** weigh and how much is the weighted ones?

Weight is over a pound compared
to a couple or few ounces stock.
Raceseng, Whalen, and others make
a wide variety. Makes shifting
smoother and less notchy.
I like mine - Red Raceseng Stratose
with perforated leather **** covering.

Go by what you like - the feel that you like. For me, a weighted shift **** makes more of a difference in cars that have a short shift kit installed...as cristo said, a weighted **** can make shifting smoother/less notchy. Also for me, the size of the **** and how it fits in my hand makes a big difference. I like large round *****, but that's just my personal preference. Lastly, I like to change them occasionally (OEM, Whalen, CravenSpeed) - again, just for fun.

So long as your 2 shifter cables are in top shape this will give a noticeable 'feel' difference in your shifting.

.... I'm a fan of the Race Enginnering "SLAMMER" *****.... At 1.5 lbs of solid stainless, made especially for the Mini application... It works well fits hand well.
Had it on a R53 I sold.... have another on order for my R56 along with the CravenSpeed Shifter retainer clip

Nothing new that I wanted to add to this conversation other than to say that I am also a happy Raceseng customer.

Really top notch machining and finishing in well designed functional shapes. They go the extra mile with designs to keep the shift boot looking slick, something that a lot of aftermarket ***** completely ignore.
