What happens if you don't register a new battery?

I have an R56 Cooper S with the IBS system on the battery. What happens if I replace the battery without resetting/registering the battery system with the new battery? I understand that battery charging and performance won't be optimal, but will there be any errors or lights that pop up?

Sometimes, full error messages will pop up on the screen, like "right front parking lamp malfunction." Will there be any error messages like that? Will there be lights like the check engine light?

For about $125 you can get a scan tool to register the battery. It will also help you deal with those other codes.

The computer will actually end up overcharging the new battery and can eve fry it.

Can't you just replace the existing battery with the same exact part number without reregistering it?

Where are you? You could use my Schwaben scanner if you're near metrowest MA. I believe it can code batteries.

if you're not bound to the dealer for all service, investing in one of these tools as a MIN owner Is a very good idea.

cheers
