Do track days? Have a tune? Please chime in!

I was wondering:
What tune do you have? (RPM power, manic, ...?)
What stage tune do you have?
How many track days have you done on the tune?
Any issues with the car?
What octane fuel do you run at track?
Highest ambient temperature at the track when you ran?

I'm considering helping a friend into a stage 1 tune and I thought it would be good to get some data!

What tune do you have? (RPM power, manic, ...?) Mario Palza
What stage tune do you have? Stage 2
How many track days have you done on the tune? Approximately six
Any issues with the car? No
What octane fuel do you run at track? 93
Highest ambient temperature at the track when you ran? 90 something

I run a JMTC turbo, charge pipe, Snow water/meth injection, and many other mods. Focus on track days has diminished as I've worked on my B-Spec R56.

What stage tune do you have?

RPM Power Stage 3. Previously on Manic Stage 2.

How many track days have you done on the tune?

2 days (full weekend, 9x 20-minute sessions) with Manic Stage 2.

10 days (5x full weekends) with RPM Stage 3.

Any issues with the car?

My issues have been a little complicated. Most of them can be attributed to ordinary wear and tear for a higher mileage vehicle. I’ve had 4 auxiliary water pump failures. The first one failed due to age, subsequent failures can be attributed to a defective replacement unit, and an electrical connection short. I’ve moved the pump to a safer, easier-to-access location and have had no issues since.

The OEM diverter valve failed and was replaced with the newest version of the OEM unit. The OEM unit had a housing failure. This replacement was sent to me free of charge (used) by my “tuner” and more than likely had a small crack in the housing before I put it on. I replaced it with a Forge recirculation valve and had a few issues with that. The Forge unit had a problem with the end cap coming loose. After this was fixed it worked well. I removed it and replaced it with a new (actually new, not second-hand) OEM unit. No issues with eh new version of the OEM unit. The reason I replaced the Forge is that the turbo was leaking boost from the turbine housing and I thought it was the Forge. It wasn’t.

I’ve also had a thermostat housing failure, replaced a VANOS solenoid, timing chain tensioner, but these are normal wear items.

Oh yeah, and two turbos. The OEM turbo started developing wastegate issues around a year into Manic Stage 2 and the first track weekend sort of made it worse. I upgraded the turbo and tune, had a host of other turbo issues (covered in other threads), and eventually replaced the junk turbo with an OEM JCW turbo (5303-988-0146). I have not had the new turbo on the track yet, but I have a weekend book for the end of May. I’ll update this at that time. What I can say is, the JCW turbo just works.

What octane fuel do you run at track?

Predominantly 93. I’ve also used 93 with 4 gallons of E85 and VP C10.

Highest ambient temperature at the track when you ran?

90 (+/- 5).

Ya there's a bosch set that will work with some modification to the fuel rail. Here's a post about it. But everyone on here runs a meth kit since the development for the fuel system side of things has been slow. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post4582674
