MINI COOPER S - Spare Tire Carrier (External) $10

Give a guy some metal, some bolts, a tow hook, and a welder - here's what happens.

Needed a spare tire carrier for outside my R56 S. I needed the trunk space so here's what I came up with.
  • Cut the tip off my tow hook
  • Drilled a 22" 1x1 square tube (2) 1/2" holes - 100mm apart
  • Welded the tow hook and bolts to the steel tube
  • Screwed it in the tow hook hole
  • Done (of course I'll grind, prime, paint, and buy a cover
At least now I'll have a spare tire carrier for long trips (not around town) and I can remove it when I get to my destination in about 10 seconds!!!

Here's some pics, I'll post new ones when its all cleaned up.

Enjoy! Rick.

I know I might be resurrecting an old thread, but I was wondering how well this ended up working for you. I'm thinking about making something similar for an upcoming roadtrip.
