R56 timing issues / to buy or not to buy?
I'm looking at buying a 2013 cooper S 63k miles,
Guy says it intermittently throws a code that its out of time. Car starts to idle ruff, down on power, throws check engine light. He had the timing chain replaced because of this. Still throws the code. (He has the old one)
Thoughts on what could be throwing these codes?
See pictures below
I appreciate the input.

I would suggest clearing all those codes and then drive it, then check for codes again. Ive had situations where the car had several codes stored (DSC and wheel speed issues, etc) that appeared after having the car down for work for a while. I cleared them, and drove it, and they did not come back. Ask about any brake work as well, since one of the codes if for front pad wear.
This likely will NOT address the rough idle and loss of power. It may have a vacuum leak causing those issues. Check all the piping from the air intake through the turbo, intercooler, and back to the manifold to see if you see or hear any leaking. The valve cover can also be a source of air leak internally. Ask if that has been changed ever - if not and no other leaking can be found it could be the issue.
Ask if the vanos solenoids were changed, checked or cleaned when the timing was done. There are two on the N18 engine (intake and exhaust).
The first code in your photo is pointing to the throttle body. I have not yet had to deal with that code, so cant really speak to a diagnosis there.

I tried 2 days worth of trouble shooting, only got it to run without codes for about 20 minutes AND WOW coming from an R50 the turbo makes quite the difference. It was apparent someone had tried chasing this issue before and everything had been F*&#$D with. I sold the car to carvana for a nice profit as I got rid of the CEL but could not get it out of limp mode. There was a leak at the intake boot where it connects to the turbo, but seeing as everything had been messed with I decided this Mini was not one I was willing to keep and dump funds into. Happy I was able to come out ahead on this one as usually I do not with cars / bikes I like.
