A/C Recharge

I have a 2008 Clubman S (R55). This is the first really hot week we've had, and my A/C is not cold. In the past, I've mainly had American cars, and I would just add freon with one of those DIY kits. Never had a problem. But, knowing how finicky the MINIs are, I thought I should do some research first. I found like 100 videos saying the DIY kits are fine to use on a MINI, but another 50 that say to never use them. I'm hoping to get some input from other actual MINI owners.
Thanks!
Dennis

I am currently going through replacing my condenser.... Those recharge kits can help, but they are a band aid, at best, and won't help if you have a hole in your system. Also, they contain way more refrigerant than you'll ever need in the Mini system. A 20oz can will have 566 grams in it, and the full re-charge system capacity of the R56/55 is only 420 grams. So, if you add the full can, your charge will be too high.

i have used one on my Clubman S, 2 years ago, and ac is still cold. I got the one that had the gauge on it, and followed the instructions. Used the rest of the can to charge MIL mini van.
