Mini Cooper S Not Boosting and Whining Noise
Hey guys, so I was recently driving no issues, than I went to do a pull and my car didn’t seem to have the power it normally did. Every time I hit boost it didn’t seem to really… well boost (or build up pressure). Seemed abnormal. At the same time whenever I do hit boost around 3k I hear a pretty good whine/whistle that happens during boost. No check engine lights either. :(
please help I have no idea where to start.

Bad diverter valve, maybe? The original ones were prone to failure and there have been a few revisions of the part.
This is the R56 version, not sure of the year of your car so you may need something different. But see if there's some way to verify yours is bad first.

Same purpose but they work differently. A diverter valve recirculates the pressure around the turbo, a blow-off valve vents it to atmosphere.
You can't put a blow-off valve on an R56 engine, it'll look like an air leak to the ECU and it'll throw check engine lights. If yours is actually bad just replace it with the right part, the new revised version is more durable.
