Battery Issue on 2011-R56 MCS

new to forum and looking to understand what is causing the battery issue i'm having with my 2011 R56 MCS

battery is relatively new in milage terms (no more than 5k miles) but about 4-years old now
issue: battery randomly dies after parking car - gear shifted into P, press start/stop button to turn off car then everything dies; entire dashboard is off, and key fob is stuck in key hole

i've been able to resolve the issue by popping open the hood and using a jumper cable clamp i touch the black negative terminal and everything starts up again

i'm using the car every couple of days (for short trips) and there doesn't seem to be any particular pattern as to when it happens - it didn't happen for a month and then 3-times in 2 days.

do i have a battery issue or is it something to do with the fob?

Could be a battery issue. Battery age is more relevant than mileage. Also, with short trips and limited usage, the battery isn't really getting a full charge.

I agree with njaremka but your choice of wording inserts some doubt:

Please elaborate on:
- "using a jumper cable clamp i touch the black negative terminal" (just one clamp??)
Is connecting only one of the two wires enough or are you actually fully connecting your car using both wires of the jumper cable to a donor voltage source?

@ipsimo
Does your battery have an IBS(intelligent battery system)? It’s that square looking thing on your negative cable like the photo below. If so, then you you’ll need to register your battery with your scan tool.
