Low oil pressure on the highway
Hello, I have a small problem with my 2012 Mini Cooper S. At speeds of 175km/h or higher, I always get the "Low Oil Pressure" warning, but as soon as I slow down to 170km/h, the message disappears. The same thing happened to me with my old 2007 Cooper. I have already replaced the oil pressure sensor, and I use Miller 10w50 oil in the summer and Miller 10w40 oil in the winter.

If you have a '12 Cooper S, you can install a scan gauge II and monitor oil pressure since the '12 models (even the justa) use an oil pressure sensor. You can also use a low-priced scan tool like the Foxwell NT530 and monitor the oil pressure via the OBDII port. That's your first step; you need to know what the actual oil pressure is. The other option would be to install a direct reading pressure gauge; you can install the pressure gauge in the oil pressure "switch" port in the cylinder head. In the 2011-2013 models, the oil pressure switch was replaced with a sensor, but the port in the cylinder head is still there. The sensor on the later models is not in a "user friendly" location.
On the '07 (I used to own one), you need to remove the oil pressure switch in the cylinder head and install a direct reading gauge. In my case the oil pressure light came on and stayed on because the oil pump failed.
Oil pressure specs
2012 S model: Idle 10 PSI; 3000 RPM 16-93 PSI (MINI went with a variable pressure oil pump in 2011; OEM recommended oil 5W-30
2007 (not variable) Idle 10 PSI; 3000 RPM; 22-44 PSI; OEM recommended oil 5W-30
